Career Wardrobe in the News - April 2009
Organization assists job seekers in difficult times

Several organizations are set up to specifically help women in their preparation and search to find jobs.
Web sites designed for women offer advice on how to negotiate a salary, tips on how to prepare for an interview and has templates for resumes. Go to www.womenforhire.com for free tips and advice. This site also has links to other sources of help. Many Web sites offer search engines and directories for women looking for jobs.
Other nonprofit services assist low-income or financially disadvantaged women in job seeking by getting them ready for the interview.
These groups are constantly looking for help from volunteers and donors.
The Career Wardrobe collects business attire and uniforms and gives them to women who need a suit to wear for an interview or scrubs to wear while at work.
The group reminds women that Earth Day Weekend is a good time for women to think about cleaning out their closets and donating accessories and unused beauty products to help a woman succeed.
Donations will help the Career Wardrobe’s mission, which includes repurposing tens of thousands of pounds of clothing each year into working wardrobes, which they say can literally transform a woman’s life.
According to the organization, 60 percent of women secure employment after coming to The Wardrobe.
The same percentage are working full time and earning over minimum wage, while 32 percent obtain an administrative position, which is defined as a job with the best opportunity for promotions and benefits.
“At The Career Wardrobe we inspire women to realize their full potential, reach for their dreams and succeed,” the Web site states.
Every donation counts. Even $10 or $20 will inspire a woman to work, the site states. Funds raised will help The Career Wardrobe expand services to women who have been displaced by the economic recession and are seeking help getting back into the workforce.
