Not just another worthy cause

Not just another worthy cause: The Career Wardrobe
April 29, 2009
Philadelphia Affordable Fashion Examiner

Author: Christina Elum

Shopping with coupons or scouring clearance racks for unbelievable bargains will send any true shopper into cloud nine, but you could really get your adrenaline going just by helping others. In my quest to find a good deal I came across this wonderful organization that encourages, empowers and outfits women.

The Career Wardrobe is the nation’s largest independent community based nonprofit organization located right here in our own backyard. This amazing program was founded in 1995 and has continued to be a successfully staple in the Philadelphia area. Staff by a small group and a slew of loyal volunteers they provide women in transition with free professional clothing, educational opportunities and assistance with career goals.

You can help continue their success by volunteering your time, donating fashionable work/interview clothing or shopping at their monthly inventory sale held on the first Thursday of the month. The next sale will take place on May 7, 2009. You will be able to add to your wardrobe while supporting a worthy cause.

On June 3, 2009 plan to attend The Career Wardrobe’s 8th annual fundraiser; A Perfect Fit. This years theme Recycle a Suit, Renew a Woman’s Life will feature your favorite female local news anchorwomen and media personalities including: Monique Braxton, Dawn Timmeney and Denise Nakano from NCB10; Sue Serio, Kerri-Lee Halkett, Nefertiti Jaquez, Dawn Stensland-Mendte and Michelle Buckman from Fox 29; Mary Stoker Smith from CBS3; and Eric Grow from 6ABC. These lovely ladies will be donating the clothes right off their backs. This extravaganza will showcase a fashion show, live music performed by singer/songwriter Karen Gross, opportunities to win some fabulous gifts, and a silent and live auction of celebrity signed handbags custom made locally by Viv Pickle Handbag Boutique. This year’s celebrity inspired and signed handbags include Steve Carell from The Office, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kenney Chesney, Kellan Lutz from Twilight, Ron Howard, Melissa Etheridge, Bette Midler, and TR Knight from Gray’s Anatomy. For tickets or corporate and individual sponsorship opportunities contact (215) 568-6693.

Let’s help The Career Wardrobe exceed their expectations by lending our full support.
