THE ALICE PAUL EQUALITY AWARDS

The Alice Paul Equality Awards Committee of the Alice Paul Institute is currently seeking nominations for the Alice Paul Equality Awards. For only the second time in its history, the Institute will present these awards at a gala Awards Dinner, which will take place on Wednesday evening, April 30, 2008. The awards will be presented to individuals who have demonstrated a strong and long-standing commitment to advancing women’s equality in New Jersey and the Delaware Valley through advocacy, litigation, business leadership, education, scholarship, or artistic expression.

The Alice Paul Equality Awards are named in memory of Alice Stokes Paul (1885-1977). Born in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey, Alice Paul dedicated her life to the single cause of securing equal rights for all women. Alice Paul led the final campaign for women's right to vote. After the 1920 victory, she authored the Equal Rights Amendment and initiated gender equality principles in both the United Nations Charter and in the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

The Alice Paul Institute (API) is a non-profit 501c(3) organization based in Mt. Laurel, NJ. API educates the public about the life and work of Alice Paul and continues that work by educating and empowering women and girls from all segments of society to take leadership roles in their schools and communities. API is headquartered at Paulsdale, Paul’s birthplace and family home. A National Historic Landmark, Paulsdale serves as a center for women’s leadership development and heritage programming.
