The Career Wardrobe Receives Grant from Henrietta Tower Wurts Memorial
For Immediate Release
The Career Wardrobe Receives Grant from
Henrietta Tower Wurts Memorial
PHILADELPHIA – The Career Wardrobe has received a $4,000 grant from the Henrietta Tower Wurts Memorial to support its general operations. Announcement of the grant was made recently by R. Andrew Swinney, President of The Philadelphia Foundation, which administers the Memorial.
“We are pleased to have been awarded this grant,” said Executive Director, Sheri Cole of The Career Wardrobe. “Support from the Henrietta Tower Wurts Memorial is particularly important this year as The Career Wardrobe has seen a 90% increase in women needing our assistance to look and feel their best as they prepare to enter the workforce. Without support of organizations like ours, 7,500 women in our community would encounter more obstacles on their path to achieving independence for themselves and their families.”
The Henrietta Tower Wurts Memorial is a charitable nonprofit foundation, formed to carry out the wishes expressed in the will of Miss Wurts, who died in 1933. She was deeply committed to community service and in keeping with her wishes the Memorial directs grants toward support of needy children and the elderly in Philadelphia. The Philadelphia Foundation provides administrative and management support services for the Memorial.
The Career Wardrobe is the nation’s largest community-based nonprofit organization serving women transitioning into the workforce by providing professional clothing and educational opportunities in the Philadelphia Region. Since 1995, they have assisted over 50,000 women by inspiring the confidence necessary to recognize their capacity for self-reliance and achieve independence. In September 2009, the organization will open The Wardrobe Boutique, an upscale recycled clothing store at 19th and Spring Garden Streets in Philadelphia to benefit The Career Wardrobe. www.careerwardrobe.org
